Seminary Sketches
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has a goal, among thousands of others, to help youth learn to understand scriptures. As Latter-Day Saints, we believe that the Book of Mormon is the word of God and that the Bible is the word of God as far as it is translated correctly. The canonized texts we study from include the King James Version of both the New and Old Testament, the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price. For me, Seminary started at 6am every school day of high school and, in order to stay awake sometimes, I sketched. Published below are some of the sketches I have created in Seminary, most of which relate to the lesson of the day.
In a non-religious standpoint, the opportunity to practice my sketching abilities was not only much appreciated, but beneficial. All of these sketches were done in pen, which means that if I messed up, I just had to make the best of it. Working in ink allows my sketches to seem less forced and more of an outcome of the the power of art rather than that of a human copy machine. Likewise, in a religious viewpoint, I believe that in life I am going to make (and have made many) mistakes and that every action I take is not only recorded in my mind, but also in records in heaven. Every stroke of action cannot be undone, however, with the Savior's Atonement, I can receive forgiveness for all my transgressions and can improve myself despite my weaknesses and flaws to become what God wants me to be. I believe that I am a child of God and that each being that has lived, is living and will live on this beautiful planet is also a loved child of God. I believe that we are each a masterpiece made by Him and that we are works in progress, destined to be more than we can possibly imagine.
