Conceptual Community CenterDesign | Architecture | Culture
In Advanced Architectural Design, I was able to work on an intensive project that focused on the design process of a community center. From a research analysis of Frisco Texas' culture, demographics and needs to interior perspectives and materials, this project has enabled me to understand what it means to design with the purpose of shaping lives. Although this is a partner project, I have only selected images that portray what I have done within this project to share with you. This community center features an art gallery, two auditoriums, a banquet area, a natatorium, dance studios, a gymnasium and several other features. |
Project Sequence:
This project began with several different mass models that focused on design rather than functionality. The chosen design is shown in the five photographs above. After creating the design, I focused on how spacial requirements would fit into the design beginning with bubble diagrams and rough floor plan sketches. With this process, I was able to really understand just how much planning is needed to create a producible design. After initial planning, I drew this poche sketch and began drawing the floor and roof plan by hand. Since this community center is three stories, I used tracing paper and chipboard to create final hand drawn plans as shown in the photograph below. Upon the completion of the plans, I created the 3D model of the building in Revit and renderings of the building are shown throughout this page. My favorite part of the process came afterwards as I created hand drawn room perspectives and furniture designs out of pure imagination. I still have much to work on when it comes to accuracy, but I thoroughly enjoyed the creative freedom this project gave me.
