Constructional Photography
Unfinished structures are beautiful, at least in my opinion. Just like some doctors and healthcare professionals are fascinated with the imagery of the insides of the human body, I love seeing the "internal organs" of buildings. Thanks to my short internship with Stantec, I was able to go to the half-finished football stadium. From the wind braces to the black moisture barrier finish, I learned more about construction details and considerations. This concrete structure is built into the area in front of some exterior doors. It prevents soil shifting from interfering from the swing of the door, which is especially important during emergencies. Manhattan, the construction company working on this site, is well known in the area for their work on The AT&T Stadium and The Star, places most "real" Texans know about. internship site visit AT MCKINNEY ISD FOOTBALL STADIUM (SUMMER 2017) Although insulation isn't typically needed between interior spaces, this wall does for acoustical purposes. The locker room is on one side and football teams can get a bit roudy. More CMU (concrete masonry unit) block)reinforcements |
ACE Mentorship site visitAT LEBANON TRAIL HIGH SCHOOL (FALL 2015) |
Through the ACE Mentor program, I was able to participate in a trades night at one of my school district's newest high schools that was still under construction . Learning about all the trades behind a construction project was mind opening to me as an architectural designer who tends to focus more on the aesthetic and client requirements. Living in an expanding city, I have been able to continuously see construction projects, but it is a completely different experience when one enters a site, sees how many people are working together on their individual tasks for a common purpose, and tries to build a brick wall. I placed one and half bricks and declare that it is definitely harder than it looks. With these photographs, I wanted to capture some of the beauty behind what is usually restricted area. |
