Concentration on Personalities
Brave. Foolish. Deceitful.
Human personalities range from individual to individual, but what remains a constant it the reality that how we come across to others may not exactly be truth. This concentration is an exploration of human character and personality, our individual weaknesses and strengths. The often unseen truth of human nature is unveiled in the concentration to become an antithesis of the natural world.
With each work, a different color was used to underline the fact each individual’s personality is unique. In fact, the young women who volunteered to help with this project are not only unique in character, but are also dear friends. The concentration commentary at the bottom of this page is what I submitted to College Board in order to explain my educational purpose behind this series of works and does not necessarily represent how I see each young woman (in some cases I believe the near opposite).
Thank you again and forever to these girls who gave up their time to help me create this concentration.

Explanatory paragraph to College Board:
The headset used with the orange and yellow faces is a commentary on how some individuals idolize nature— represented through the pine cones, flowers and twigs— to the point that they are destroying the environment—-represented by empty eggshells in the birdcage. Likewise, the piece with the light blue face criticizes vanity for its degenerative nature as shown with youthful brown hair becoming dead and gray. On a more optimistic note, the headset with the darker blue face focuses on individual enlightenment and thus the possibility for character development. The fact that these personalities are often unseen or hidden by deceit is manifested in the work with the teal face, where an seemingly alluring image of tropical drinks is, upon close inspection, actually filled with harmful chemicals. The headset with the corresponding green face criticizes some human’s nature to live vicariously through technology, leaving no room for personal understanding--as portrayed with the unlighted light bulbs. Although these interpretations are given, just like human character, each piece is multifaceted and can be interpreted in multiple ways. Indeed, the definite truth of human personality may never be fully captured. That is why we can still fail to understand each other. That is why it is important to continue to seek to learn and to comprehend.

More information...
- Pieces appear mainly in chronological order (in terms of making the head pieces and taking the photos) and so works may seem to vary in skill.
- The quotes used were not ones I came up with. I tried to give credit when I could find a name and tweaked some to make it more suiting to the work.
- Once again, please do not steal my work or claim it as your own; I really appreciate when you share my work and give credit.
- Any suggestions or critiques are appreciated! Please share on the contact page.
- Thank you for viewing this concentration; it was one made to be shared!
